The sitting/living room can truly be described as a room for all reasons. It is used for relaxation and the entertainment of guests, as a study, playroom, music room and also as a library – it is a complex area to plan, to decorate and least of all to light up properly. The best way to approach the challenge is to imagine an average day and then make a list of the ways in which the sitting/living room is used. This will offer a starting point for the lighting scheme, whether it’s a matter of making the best of existing facilities or of starting afresh.
